“Rue’s death has forced me to confront my own fury
against the cruelty, the injustice they inflict upon us…” Katniss page 236.
This quote has made me to think about the cruelty in
Panem and the cruelty in our society. Rue’s death may seem as a big deal. Some may
think why express Rue’s death throughout the book? Well that’s because she was
young and was chosen out of her district to be part of the hunger games. When Rue
was chosen it was cruelty upon the capitol to see children fight to the death
for some fame. The chances would be 1/24. This shows cruelty and horrible
government. Our society doesn't make children do this but others have. For example
in Somalia children at a young age are being kidnapped and forced to join the army and fight a war that isn't theirs. Our society
is cruel and there are no second thoughts that we are living in a “perfect”
society. In the book Katniss hates the capitol for many reasons. The quote “Rue’s
death has forced me to confront my own fury against the cruelty, the injustice
they inflict upon us…” Katniss shows how the injustice on letting a little girl
and many other kids having to fight shows on how the capitol wants
entertainment.
In the Roman times gladiators would fight for the amusement
of the crowd. In the book we see the same; the more powerful would watch
criminals and innocent people die in a cruel way. Katniss shows that she cares
about the society she lives in because she knows to speak out on what she doesn't think is right. At the end of the hunger games Katniss and Peeta are the only
two left and since Katniss doesn't like the capitol she rebels by taking out
berries, by taking out the berries there would be no winner in the hunger games.
President Snow had not agreed to this and didn't like Katniss rebellion.
In my opinion Suzanne Collins based the story off of
our own society. In Divergent that’s how all the groups were made. For example
every group was made because that’s their version of how our society got messed
up. But when Katniss says “Rues death has forced me to confront my own fury
against cruelty…” Katniss shows in the beginning of the book that she doesn't agree
with the capitol. In our society there have been people who had not agreed with
our nation’s society which led them to the Revolutionary. Cruelty has also led to
racism and sexism, in the book all the things that the districts do benefit the
capitol. As the capitol just sits back and enjoy the hunger games as their “entertainment”
Freddy great post, I didn't exactly understand the importance of that quote, so I specifically chose other quotes. You explained it well, and I hope to speak more about this on Thursday.
