Divergent

Divergent by Veronica Roth is what I am still currently reading. At age sixteen, everyone chooses which faction they want to be. Meaning which trait will they live by. There are the Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. The protagonist, Beatrice had a choice to choose between a piece of cheese and a knife. She ends up picking neither. After that test, she is told she is a Divergent. So she choose to be from Abnegation to Dauntless. The Dauntless are strong and bold, also they have no fear to fight their problems. She has an internal conflict, but there is an external conflict too.

The internal conflict is that Beatrice sometimes thinks that she can't be Dauntless because in the book, there are all these tests given to her and other people and they are too much to handle. Sometimes she cries because of what is happening to her. But that leads to the external conflict. The external conflict is that many of the people training to be Dauntless are suffering too! They don't want to fight and hurt each other. In my opinion, hurting each other is wrong. Even if it is just practice, it isn't right to hurt the ones that...didn't do anything wrong. The difference between the internal and external conflict is that Beatrice's individual conflict is that she thinks that she won't be able to succeed. But in the book, there are times she acted courageous like when she defended Al when he was "practicing" not to flinch when a knife is thrown at him. The external conflict affects everyone's emotions. Everyone else has separate emotions when it comes to all this Dauntless training.

I don't agree with how the conflicts are being handled. First, I don't agree with the Dauntless training because it proves that hurting people is okay. But Dauntless means over-coming cowardice by becoming bold and courageous. Nothing to do with fighting and hurting people just for practice. Also, crying about it is okay, I guess. But doing it in front of Four isn't! That is because Four is serious about being dauntless. Then suddenly Beatrice is crying when he is around!

In conclusion, the conflicts can really make you feel lucky to not have this stuff going on in your world. Maybe the conflicts will resolve when I finish the book!
