Divergent

I am currently reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. Its about how when you are sixteen years old, everyone must chooses which faction they want to be which could change anybody hearts even when you don't know it. The faction picking is all about which trait will they live in and by. There are 5 faction the Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. She then meets an instructor named four who helps her through initiation. However I think that Four is an interesting character. I believe that he is a complex character and that he is originally from the faction abnegation.
There were parts in the story where the author showed the reader that four was from abnegation. almost in the beggining of the book. in one part of the book in  a paragraph the author said “two years ago Marcus’s son, Tobias, left us for Dauntless, and Marcus was devastated.” This sow that it was four because you must changed factions when you are 16 and that was 2 years ago and now Four is 18. Also Tobias changed to Dauntless which is where Four is, and since you don’t keep your name when you change faction he could have changed it to Four i suspect something.

While Four is talking to Tris after Al killed himself he said “we just have to let the guilt remind us to do better next time.” Tris then mentions that it is a lesson that Abnegation learn which is supposed to mean that guilt is a object not a gun. For Four to have known that he would have had to grown up in abnegation and then changed to a different faction.

One last piece of evidence is that Four never wants to share his history about him. He always says that it does not matter where he came from, it only matters that he is in dauntless now. He is trying to hide from the Faction he came from. He is probably scared of revealing his true identy

i think this connects to teenagers or humans in general. A lot of people don’t want to share their past or tell any information to anybody. I think that the author is using four as an example on why you don’t always need to share your past maybe it will be good to keep your mouth shut most of the time. She might also be trying to say that you don’t need to know someone’s past and what matters is the present and the future. She might be saying you shouldn't judge people on their past. Don't judge at all. Just to enjoy life
