Not losing yourself

In the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Peeta says, "I want to die as myself." When he says this it was very interesting to me. I tried to think and figure out what he meant. I thought that Peeta was saying that when the end up going to the arena and fight in the games, they change. They change into these killing monsters who have no mercy and want to kill everyone in their way to victory, no matter who it is or how old they are. I think that that is exactly what the capitol wants too. They want them to become these blood thirsty killing machines because it puts on a good show that entertains them. Thats what Peeta doesn't want. He doesn't want to go down as another one of the capitol's game pieces in the games. He doesn't want to lose himself in the arena, just for the capitol's entertainment.

In real life when some people become famous, they let all the money and the fame get to their heads. They lose themselves completely and they end up not being the person that they once were. Some of these famous people become complete trainwrecks because all the money and fame gets to them. They change so much that even their mother's and family start to question if they're really related. This happens because once money and fame get into the picture, then they just change. They become the opposite of what they once were and they become known as someone that they're really not. Like when some celebrites breakdown and become out of control, they become known as a crazy celebrity that did something weird. Like a celebrity can be the world's best singer, but if they do something dumb or something crazy then people forgot their talent and all the other amazing things that they can do and just remember then for a mistake that they made. Like for example Lindsay Lohan. When I think of her I think of her as a person who went to rehab and was in drugs and stuff, and thats also how a lot of people see her as. But before, people used to think of her as a really amazing actor but that all changed when she changed and got into the drugs and alcohol. Another example is Amy whinehouse. Early in her career everyone knew her as a good singer with a really good voice. But later in her career and when she died, people thought of her for being a drug addict who overdosed and that's because thats the image she gave herself. Thats the image that her fans and the people saw. Just another drug addict.

That's what peeta doesn't want. He doesn't want people to know him as the person who killed this little boy in the arena or some girl in the arena. No, he wants them to remember him as being Peeta Mellark. Not a capitol game piece who turned into a cold hearted killer for his survival. He wanted to be known and remembered as Petta Mellark. The born his mom raised him to be and the boy that his friends and family knew him as.
