The two female protagonists Katniss and Beatrice are very simlar but are very unique as well. Katniss is a female protaonist from the book The Hunger Games, by suzanne collins about how Katniss goes to fight for her life in the violent Hunger Games of the once United States, Panem. Beatrice, known as Tris in the majority of the book, is the female protagonist from the book Divergent about another future United states where she is the odd one out of the bunch and her differences make her life dangerous. Both girls face problems and go about them in similar ways but, as stated before, they are still have unique personalities.

These two female protagonists are similar because they both take risks, are brave, and they both do what they can for the people they love. They put other people first. For example, Katniss Everdeen takes the place of her sister in the Hunger Games. This is both an act of kindness and bravery. She is brave enough to not think about what might happen to her entering into the Hunger Games but that she doesn't want her sister to get hurt or die. she doesn't care if she's risking her life because she loves her sister so much. Beatrice, in the beginning of the book, is a member of the Abnegation faction. This faction values selflessness and they always think of other people before themselves. Even having fun is too self involved for them. An example of how Beatrice is brave is that she switches factions instead of staying loyal to her born faction. This is a huge risk because many factions get very upset when one of their original members switches factions at the choosing ceremony. It is looked down upon. Overall, these girls have strong characteristics and they are both very similar.

These two female protagonists, though very similar, are also very different. One way they are different is that Katniss is brave throughout the entire story. You see her act brave in the beginning when she trespasses unguarded territory to hunt foe her family, al the way to the end of the story where she breaks the rules of the Hunger Games. Throughout the entire story Katniss stays true to hersled. She might grow as a person but she doesn't totally change who she is. Beatrice, on the other hand, starts out as a girl who comes from a faction that is very proper and not self involved at all. From there she goes to a faction that values bravery and taking risks. She, as a person, drastically changes. She and Katniss are very different that way.

Overall, although these two strong and powerful female protagonists are very similar in wany ways, they are both individuals. No two people are the same. It's interesting how The Hunger Games and Divergent are both dystopian fiction books about future United States and the two main characters are very similar. Maybe the authors of these kind of books feel that there needs to be a strong ad brave main character? I wonder if these similarities were a coincidence or not? I would like to read more of these kinds of books to see if the similarities are still there.
