Every power has it's source...

I chose prompt #1
The category on the sheet that says "What large scale rebellions have occurred" interested me. During our discussion about the power of the Capitol in The Hunger Games I was thinking about how rebellions in the Hunger Games were similar to ones in the real world. In the Hunger Games, the two acts of rebellion in sorts that I looked at were the Dark Days, and when Katniss blew up the supplies of the Career tributes. During our discussion I got the thought that what keeps the Capitol in power next to fear is resources. During the Dark Days, the Districts turned against the capitol, but lost. The Capitol depends on the districts for their resources, and they can't fend for themselves. I think that's why they are so scared of loosing the Districts. Without the districts to fuel them, they can't run.

Also, when Katniss was planning to blow up the Career tribute's supplies, it's almost the same idea. On page 208 the author is describing how the Career tributes always win because they have their stash of supplies. Katniss is also saying how they aren't used to being hungry like her and Rue. In this scenario the Career tributes are the Capitol, and Katniss is the Districts. It's metaphorical and literal because the careers come from the most pampered districts. Katniss' plan is to separate the Careers from their supplies, like when the Districts turned against the Capitol. Separating them from their power source makes them as vulnerable as everyone else, and gives the other tributes a fighting chance.

From the real world, I compared the Revolutionary War to the Dark Days. In both the lower class group turns against their harsh and cruel leaders. The only difference is, in the real world we won. Before the revolutionary war, the colonies were being used like slaves for Britain. We were to farm and mine and work, then send our raw materials over to Britain so they could use our hard work and take it for granted. But take the raw materials away, and give them to people who really know how to use them properly, then Britain looses some power. Take away the Districts, and the Capitol is nothing but a pretty blob. Blow up their food, and the Careers are basically normal. Every power has it's source, and they need it to go on as usual. Without it, someone else or something else could come into power.
