Make a Difference.

In the book The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, in a future United States called Panem, twenty four randomly-picked teens fight to their death in the Hunger Games. They all must kill each other until one last person is standing. This person then gets prizes and a wonderful life back home. After the Dark Days, where the thirteen districts that this future U.S is separated into rebelled, the Capitol (rulers of the districts) created the Hunger Games. No one, especially Katniss (the main character) likes the Capitol because they don't do anything to help the districts in poverty and they created a game where people kill each other so they could watch. Personally, I despise the capitol as well.

On page 14 of the book, Katniss says, "What good is yelling about the capitol in the middle of the woods?" I completely agree with her. Not only would the capitol not listen to her but they won't care either. Saying something in the middle of the woods is useless as well. It's not like the capitol can hear her. It must be really bothersome to know that you really can't make a difference in the world. At the beginning of the story, before Katniss and Peeta broke the rules of the Hunger Games, everyone has little to no chance of standing up against the capitol. If I were anyone in a poor districts I would really feel discouraged and upset that i couldn't do anything about the way I lived and how the people who have control over me aren't doing anything to help.

In conclusion, I think that this quote shows how people who live in the poor districts of Panem know they have no chance of standing up against the capitol. It shows that Katniss knows that complaining about the capitol in the middle of the woods or anywhere won't change anything. She knows that the capitol has a lot of power and is very happy with the way they have set up their country. Today, in the U.S, we have freedom of speech and we do have a chance to make a big difference and change things. In Panem, one place rules everything and the other people of the country have no say in anything! I find this very unfair and I am happy that in the end of the Hunger Games Katniss and Peeta made a difference... Finally!
